FIXED ORTHODONTIC

A Stable Solution that Renews Your Smile

If you've lost teeth due to accident, injury, or gum disease, we can create a permanent bridge to restore your solid smile. A bridge not only fills the gap, but it also prevents repositioning of remaining teeth. It can also correct a misaligned bite, improve chewing function and speech articulation, and provide internal structure for the face to give you a more youthful appearance.

What is a Fixed Bridge?

First of all, a bridge is a prosthetic tooth (or teeth) that attaches on one or both sides to teeth prepared with dental crowns. A fixed bridge is permanently joined onto the neighboring abutment teeth (crowned teeth) and consists of three basic units: the false tooth or teeth (called a pontic) and two abutment crowns. The style of bridge we suggest will depend upon the strength and health of the abutment teeth, as well as the location of the gap in relation to the rest of your dentition. If healthy adjacent abutment teeth aren't available, a surgically-implanted metal post, known as a dental implant, may offer a solid alternative. For a bridge that replaces many teeth, we may recommend a removable partial denture or implant-supported prosthesis. With proper care, a fixed bridge may last at least 8 to10 years.

If you have questions about crown and bridgework or any other dental prosthetic, call our dental Clinic. We will be happy to discuss the options and schedule your evaluation.

Dental Crown is also called dental cap. When you lost your tooth structure and dentists cannot fill the cavity by just normal dental fillings, you are required a crown to cover that tooth. In fact, patients can lost their tooth structure from many causes such as badly tooth decay, broken by accident, undergoing root canal treatment, etc. It would be deemed as a “cover"as the crown will cover or replace part of the tooth seen in the mouth. Another advantage of dental crown is about aesthetic. Dental crown can help patient for teeth appearance and this is called cosmetic dental works or smile makeover because dental crown can correct chip, discolor, misshape and alignment teeth.

A crown fits over the entire top of the tooth above the gum line. Crowns cover, protect, seal and strengthen a tooth. Amritsar Dental Clinic recommend the crown is more necessary after root canal treatment.

There are many situations that may call for a crowning Of Teeth:

Large decay.

If a tooth has decay so deep and large that a filling will not stay, or if the tooth structure is weakened, a crown must be placed on the tooth to save it.

Large old fillings.

When large old fillings of tooth break down, or get decay around them, they usually need to be crowned. It is important to crown a tooth that has been structurally weakened to prevent a cracked or broken tooth. Once a tooth breaks, it may not be possible to save it.

Cracked tooth.

When a tooth is cracked, a filling will not seal the crack. A crown has to be placed over the tooth to hold it and the crack together. If a crown is not placed on the tooth, the tooth will become sensitive to chewing pressure, or will eventually break. It is important to crown a cracked tooth before it breaks, because in some cases a broken tooth cannot be crowned and must be extracted.

Broken / Fractured tooth.

A tooth that has broken is usually too weak to hold a filling. A crown will hold the tooth together and prevent it from breaking again. If the fracture involves the nerve, Root Canal Therapy may be required before the tooth is crowned. In some cases, a broken tooth cannot be saved and must be extracted.

Sensitive teeth.

Teeth that are very sensitive, either from a lot of "wear," or from receded gums, sometimes require crowns to seal and protect the teeth from hot and cold sensitivity.

Root Canal Therapy.

A tooth that has undergone Root Canal Therapy will need a crown to properly seal and protect the tooth. A tooth with Root Canal Therapy is more brittle than a tooth with a healthy nerve and blood supply. A crown provides the necessary support to the tooth.

A Permanent Bridge replaces one or more missing teeth. A Bridge will:

1.Keep teeth from drifting into the space created from a missing tooth
2.Help preserve normal function and normal bite for the jaw joint
A Permanent Bridge is usually anchored to the teeth on both sides of the space from the missing tooth. This gives the bridge strong support. Brushing a bridge is no different than brushing natural teeth, but special flossing instructions are given to keep the bridge and surrounding tissue healthy. Some of the indications for a crown are:-

image 1.A previously filled tooth where there now exists more filling than tooth. The existing tooth structure becomes weakened and can no longer support the filling.
2.Extensive damage by decay.
3.Discolorations and compromised esthetics.
4.Fractures
5.Root canal - After root canal, teeth tend to become brittle and are more apt to fracture. These teeth need to be protected by a crown.
6.Bridges are recommended to replace one or two missing teeth. They require healthy adjacent teeth to support the replacement teeth. Missing more than one or two teeth is generally better replaced with removable partials.
